Police services/duties..Polizeidienste/Verpflichtungen

There are three police organisations, all have “core” roles and duties but each work together where and when necessary, with the nature of the crime or development within an investigation determining which agency takes the elad role.

The Guardia Civil (Civil Guard)

These are recognised by their green uniforms and are responsible for national security, customs and crowd control. You will usually see them on the motorway in either cars or on motorbikes as they also do motorway traffic enforcement.

The National Police (La Policia)

They wear either a black uniform and a white shirt or a blue military style uniform. Their duties include guarding public buildings, the Royal Family and Government figures. If you are a victim of street crime these are the police that will deal with your case. If you are a victim of such crime, you need to make a statement (denuncia) at a police station.

The Municipal Police

They wear blue and white uniforms. They are responsible to the mayor and town hall in each municipality, and their duties include controlling local traffic and parking violations.

Your local police station will provide you with information on a range of queries even details of the nearest chemist on duty.

If you are arrested you will be entitled to make one phone call. You may be allotted the free services of a duty solicitor (abogado de oficio), who may speak only Spanish. If your case is taken to court, the authorities will provide a translator.

Polizeidienste/Verpflichtungen

Es gibt drei Polizei Organisationen, jeder hat seine eigene Verpflichtungen, aber alle arbeiten zusammen wo und wenn notwendig. Die Art des Arbeits bestimmt welche Organisation die Fuehrung hat.

Guardia Civil

Die Guardia Civil traegt gruene Uniforme und ist verantwortlich fuer Nationalsicherheit, Zoll, und Veranstaltungskontrolle. Man sieht Ihnen oft auf den Autobahnen weil Verkehrskontrolle auch Ihre Verantwortung ist.

Nationalpolizei

Die Nationalpolizei traegt entweder ein schwarzes Uniform und weisses Hemd, oder ein blaues Militaer-aehnliches Uniform.

Ihre Verpflichtungen betreffen die Ueberwachung von oeffentliche Gebaude, die Koenigliche Familie, und Regierungs Beamten.

Sie sind verantwortlich fuer Kriminalitaet in den Strassen. Wenn Sie davon einen Opfer sind muessen Sie einen Erklaerung (denuncia) machen.

Stadtpolizei

Die Stadtpolizei traegt blaue und weisse Uniforme. Sie sind den Buergermeister der Stadt untergestellt. Ihre Verantwortung betrifft Lokalverkehr und Park- Verstosse.

Wenn Sie verhaftet werden sind Sie erlaubt einen Telefonanruf zu machen. Sie koennen die gratis Dienste eines Anwalts zugewiesen bekommen. (Abogado de officio), der normalerweise nur Spanisch spricht.

Wenn Ihren Fall zur Gericht genommen wird, wird die Behoerde einen Dolmetscher verfuegbar stellen.
